North Seymour Frigatebird Colonies & Blue-Footed Booby Mating Dance
Walk inches away from the world's most vibrant bird courtship colonies: male frigatebirds inflating enormous crimson throat pouches and blue-footed boobies performing high-stepping courtship dances.
North Seymour is a flat, uplifted submarine lava plateau just north of Baltra Island. It represents the premier seabird breeding metropolis in the Galapagos. A 1.2-mile circular trail winds through fragrant Palo Santo trees where hundreds of male Magnificent Frigatebirds inflate giant crimson gular sacs like brilliant balloons, while blue-footed boobies execute their signature foot-raising courtship ritual.
Courtship displays occur year-round. Between May and November mating rituals and chick hatching peak in frenzied activity.
