Depart early from Quito traveling south on the Pan-American Highway through the Avenue of Volcanoes.

Enter Cotopaxi National Park, visiting the Interpretation Center and panoramic páramo grasslands.

Drive up to the parking lot at 4,500 m and begin the memorable hike up volcanic ash scree to José Rivas Refuge at 4,800 m.

After taking in breathtaking views and warming up at the refuge, descend and visit Limpiopungo Lagoon before enjoying an included lunch and returning to Quito.
